Energy Audits (EN 16247-1)

Since 2012, the Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU obliges large companies to conduct energy audits. The implementation of the directive took place in the EU member states with the help of national laws. Only organizations that have successfully implemented either an energy management system according to the specifications of DIN EN ISO 50001 or a validated environmental management system in accordance with EMAS are exempted from this energy auditing obligation.

ISO 16247-1 stipulates the procedure and content of energy audits. The Standard defines the specific requirements relating to the preparation and implementation of the audit, as well as the audit report. In order to comply with the legal requirements, the audits may also only be performed by authorised auditors.
